Baños is a centre for the Roman Catholic faith as it is believed that the Virgin Mary appeared at a waterfall close to the city. A sculpture of the Virgin can be found in the city’s cathedral which commemorates this belief.

Due to the tropical climate, average temperatures in Baños vary little throughout the year, averaging between 68-77°F/20-23°C with highs up to 86°F/30°C. The hottest months are usually September to November.
The area is busiest with travelers between December and February, and considerably quieter between June and August.
As the adventure capital of Ecuador, there is no shortage of adrenaline-filled activities in Baños! From zip lining through the canopy to rafting down river rapids or canyoning down waterfalls, there’s plenty to do to fill your days here. Don’t forget to snap an iconic traveler photo at the Casa del Arbol, where they have a giant swing overlooking the Tungurahua Volcano!
Aside from getting your pulse racing, take the time to admire Baños’ natural beauty at a slower pace. There are plenty of hikes in the region through the lush forests to impressive waterfalls.
Baños is known for being a spa town as much as it is an adventure destination. Its name literally means “baths” in Spanish, which comes from the presence of volcanic hot springs near the town. Take a trip to the famous La Piscina de la Virgen for a day of rest and relaxation.

From outside of Ecuador, you’ll first have to make your way to the capital, Quito. Buses bound for Baños leave from Quito daily, take around 3.5 hours, and cost $4-5 USD.
