If you are interested in tours in Colon, Panama, there are great options for combining culture, nature, and relaxation. The fort city of Portobello has a long history of trade, cultural blends, and battling invading pirates (Francis Drake is allegedly buried in a lead coffin in the city’s harbor!). The area also is also famous for its distinct Afro-Antillean music, culture, and food, including congo drumming and coconut rice.
The islands of Isla Mamey and Isla Grande make for perfect full day or half day trips to snorkel and soak up the Caribbean sun. For those interested in relaxing like a local, Isla Grande has a chill vibe and is a popular spot for a barbecue. Isla Mamey is not known to many tourists and if you go during a weekday, you may have the place to yourself!
A word of warning, spend as little time in Colon City as possible – it is quite dangerous and has little to offer tourists in terms of attractions. You’ll be fine if you just need to transfer buses.
