Many travelers to Panama like to get up to this Caribbean haven to relax, party, and do some activities during the days. Bocas del Toro activities typically include snorkeling, surfing, cultural excursions, and going on boat trips to nearby islands.
If you want to snorkel during the day, one of the most fun and personalized ways to do it is to rent a kayak and snorkeling equipment and paddle yourself out to some of the nearby islands. Most hostels either provide any of that equipment, or can tell you how to find it. They can also recommend accessible snorkeling spots.
For surfing, there are tons of surf shops that can tell you everything you’ll need to know about the current swells, incoming weather, and the best spots for your skill level. If you want to simply swim, you can do that right from the main island, or get on a boat to a less populated island and enjoy a more private experience.
The area also has an amazing chocolate tour run by a local cacao cooperative, which we highly recommend adding to your trip’s itinerary. Every memebr of the coop contributes to the chocolate production and artisan goods available for sale, and a large percentage of the profits go straight back to the community to support the school, cleaning projects, and other initiatives. The trip gives you an excellent chance to see the jungle (including maybe seeing sloths!) and learn about how cacao is made into organic dark chocolate!
